Skin Matrix

The skin is a living organ, made up of three layers. 17

Two of the skin’s layers – the epidermis and the dermis – play a major role in the skin’s aesthetic quality: 17–19

  • The epidermis is the visible layer of the skin
  • The dermis lies beneath the epidermis, and is the supporting tissue made up of cells including, among others, fibroblasts*. This layer contains collagen and elastic fibres with substances such as hyaluronic acid in between. 18

*These cells are responsible for the production of elastin, the protein which gives the skin its elasticity and suppleness. 18
