BENEFITS OF NATURAL PURE SOLUBLE MARINE ELASTIN

Elastin is the “spring in our skin” that helps our skin bounce back after smiling or frowning. Unfortunately, elastin degrades as we age. 1,2

The Dermastine® range contains peptides of natural pure soluble marine elastin C45, which are isolated from by-products of the fishing industry. This reduces waste and environmental pollution. 3

Natural pure soluble marine elastin C45:  

  • Is a small molecule than can pass through the skin barrier into the dermis, getting to work on a deeper level 4
  • Has a high amino acid content that helps restore suppleness and firmness to the skin 4
  • Has a highly hydrating effect on the skin 3
  • Reduces surface wrinkles and lines by improving skin elasticity and tone 3
  • Helps reduce the appearance of striae (stretch marks) to a remarkable degree 5
  • Assists in increasing skin firmness due to its tensing effect 5

BENEFITS OF VITAMIN A

The Vitamin A used in Dermastine® is called retinyl palmitate.. 6†‡ It is a retinoid derived from Vitamin A and effectively slows the skin’s ageing process. 7,8 In fact, Vitamin A was one of the first vitamins approved by the Food and Drug Administration as an anti-wrinkle agent with anti-ageing effects. 7

  • Reduces the enzymes in skin that break down collagen 7
  • Penetrates the skin and protects it against collagen degradation, stimulates collagen fibres, enhances elastin production and strengthens the protective properties of skin 7
  • Helps to reduce the appearance of scars and improve the hyperpigmentation and wrinkling caused by UV light damage 5,7

Whilst Vitamin A is a very delicate ingredient that is easily oxidized, it is often used together with an antioxidant – Vitamin E: 7–9

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant, which:

  • Reduces the production of free radicals in the skin. Free radicals cause destruction of skin cell structure 10
  • Possesses vasodilatory activity – increases blood & oxygen to skin 5
  • Highly emollient effect on the skin – nourishes the skin 5
  • Absorbs harmful UV light 11

BENEFITS OF HYALURONIC ACID (HA)

Youthful skin has a consistent hydrated appearance because it contains large amounts of HA. 12 HA is present in most biological fluids and tissues of vertebrates, the highest amount being found in soft connective tissue. The skin contains around 50 % of the total HA content present within the human body. After the age of 20 years, the amount of HA continuously decreases. 13

Hyaluronic acid is recognised as an exceptional free radical scavenger, with anti-inflammatory properties. 12

Topical application of HA has been shown to improve moisturisation and elasticity as well as reduce wrinkle depth. 14 This is because HA can retain 1 000 times its weight in water, making it a highly effective moisturising agent. 13

The HA used in the Dermastine® Hydra range is a crosspolymer, boosting its benefits to skin:

Cross-linking of the HA (hyaluronan) promotes a chemical modification that suggests an improvement in penetration of HA. Diffusion and penetration studies demonstrated that the formation of smaller particles of HA by means of cross-linking resulted in better penetration through skin. 13 Daily moisturising with HA helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as protect and maintain the skin’s barrier. 6,14

BENEFITS OF JOJOBA OIL

Jojoba oil has a host of benefits for skin due to its skin repairing qualities. Its anti-inflammatory and moisturising properties make it good for skin aging and for healing dry itchy skin. 6,15

BENEFITS OF SHEA BUTTER

Shea butter complements the jojoba oil with its potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, helping to soothe dry skin. 6,15

BENEFITS OF RASPBERRY SEED OIL

Raspberry seed oil is a wonderful source of anti-inflammatories, antioxidants and UV-protective pigments to help soothe and restore smooth lips. 6,16
